Last night I went to a workmate's 40th birthday party. Usual type party - all the food was prepared by the family; some of the family come from Wagga. During the evening we were all given name tags to wear. I wasn't quick enough to say mine should say Bear so I got a Kylie name tag which is where the fun began. One of the older family members was wandering around with a plate of food offering it to people and reading their name tags. When she got to me she looked a bit puzzled. The conversation went a bit like this;
Older family member (OFM): Kylie? Is your name really Kylie?
Me: Yes.
OFM: Not Kyle?
Me: No Kylie. [I'm starting to smile now]
OFM: Where are you from?
Me: I'm a transexual from New Zealand!
OFM: Oh You're from New Zealand! [content with this she moves on to the next person]
Somehow the transexual bit seemed to disappear from the conversation.
